PNA/Weill Cornell Pituitary Conference A Success
On November 8th, the PNA co-hosted a day-long conference on pituitary issues with Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. It was very successful; about 85 medical professionals from the New York and the surrounding areas attended.
It was clear that many of the issues that were presented are relatively new to some of the attendees, particularly surrounding the mental health connection in pituitary disease, the new drugs being used, and the latest endoscopic surgical approaches.
Following the conference, about 120 people (doctors, patients and families) attended the PNA's Gentle Giant Awards dinner, which honored Weill Cornell neurosurgeon Dr. Theodore Schwartz. Four separate speakers told their personal stories and praised Dr. Schwartz for his part in their pituitary journey. Many patients who attended the dinner said that their lives have been greatly improved (or even saved) by the medical and surgical progress made in recent years.
The PNA is grateful to all who attended or helped organize the events. It is part of the PNA's core mission to reach deep into the medical community to teach them how to recognize the first symptoms of these insidious diseases. They need to b able to recognize the signs of pituitary disease and direct patients to expert help.
